Aryely dijo : There might be a little bit of a dfefirent brushstroke of evangelicals here in the south. Many of the mega-warehouse churches are integrated with Blacks and Whites. And there is also a long-standing history of Black churches that are very large in congregation here: Church of God in Christ and African Methodist Episcopal, are two that come to mind right off the top. They have a very rich tradition and, in fact, Memphis is the place where the COGIC has their yearly convention in November every year. Out here in the rural churches, there are the traditional black churches, as well. But many of the country churches, they have actually combined their congregations and have a mix that would make one proud. While they all might have conservative ideas about abortion and gay rights, they are not at all racist. My brother's church prides itself on being very multi-cultural and racial. And they really are. They have done Houses for Habitat, etc. and have pretty liberal social agendas, except where abortion is concerned. Some of the real scary neo, militia type people around here, don't even attend church. They just talk the talk. They tend to mix their religion with their get-togethers surrounding the neo/fascist/militia organization. I don't want to confuse the Aryan nation types with some of the kind folks that attend these churches. Many of the folks who vote Dem are members of these country churches and evangelical churches. The media just likes to concentrate on the idjits and paint a broad stroke. And, let's face it, the idjits are loud. February 16th, 2010 at 3:48 pm I think of these people as Christianists it's like the difference between New Money and Old Money the megachurches here have become quite politicized but there are still small Evangelical churches that really have little or nothing to do with politics. February 16th, 2010 at 4:00 pm Yes, that is a good term for the faction of idjits. I think that the more outlandish their preachers are (i.e., televangelists and such), the more likely there are to be the fringes within. In reality these preachers are just actors trying to get attention, and using the sheeple to advance their careers.
